Former Kentucky state Senator Elizabeth Tori has passed away at age 91 at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown.
Tori, of Radcliff, who was first elected in 1994, died on October 2, 2024. She represented the 10th Senatorial District from 1995 to 2011.
“I’ve known Elizabeth since 1996 and served with her for many years. She was as kind of a person as you’d ever want to know, who had a fierce loyalty to Kentucky and all of its residents,” Senate President Robert Stivers said. “Elizabeth was passionate about those who served in the military and advocated for our active-duty members and retirees who lived in Kentucky. She was also very dedicated to her husband, Martin, and the family they shared.”
House Speaker David Osborne also commented on the passing of Tori, who was the first woman and first Republican to serve the 10th district, which encompasses Hardin and Jefferson County. Her career spanned four terms and included service as both the Senate Minority and Majority Whip:
“On behalf of the Kentucky House of Representatives, I extend heartfelt condolences to Senator Tori’s family. I had the privilege of serving with Elizabeth and greatly respected her work ethic and commitment to our Commonwealth,” Osborne said. “As a mother, grandmother, small business owner, and community volunteer, she understood the challenges faced by hard-working Kentuckians and fought for them in every single public policy debate.
“Elizabeth was also an ardent and outspoken advocate for her constituents and one of the first to truly understand the impact that active-duty military personnel and veterans have on our state,” he continued. “Her legacy is evident in many of the policies passed by the legislature today and will benefit this state for generations to come.”
A graveside service is at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at North Hardin Memorial Gardens in Radcliff with Bro. Ron Hockman officiating.
