KLC Environmental Notification Initiative Unanimously Passes House of Representatives

A KLC Environmental Notification initiative sailed through the House on Tuesday with a 94-0 vote.

House Bill 583, sponsored by Rep. William Lawrence, R-Maysville, corrects an oversight in a 5-year-old statute to add mayors to the list of officials the Energy and Environment Cabinet notifies when there is an environmental emergency in their jurisdiction.

Environmental emergencies cause imminent and substantial danger to human health and the environment.

The legislation previously passed with unanimous approval in the House Natural Resources and Energy Committee last week.

The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration as time dwindles in the 2024 legislative session.
