FY 2022 EECBG Funds Available

Kentucky’s cities can prepare to apply for Fiscal Year 2022 Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funds that can be used on eligible activities. The eligible activities are centered on increasing energy efficiency and decreasing fossil fuel dependence in the commonwealth. The FY 2022 amount to be awarded is $229.2 million through either a grant or voucher. There is no cost match for cities to apply.

Eligible activities include, but are not limited to:

  • The development and implementation of a climate action or sustainability plan;
  • Financial incentives for energy efficiency, such as the use of a revolving loan fund;
  • Energy efficiency retrofit grants for government agencies and nonprofit organizations to be used on buildings, equipment, or technologies;
  • Developing or creating energy efficiency and conservation programs through training and workshops;
  • Conservation of transportation energy through the purchase of alternative fuel vehicles, e-scooters, or increasing bike lanes; and
  • The replacement of traffic signals and street lights to decrease traffic congestion.

The first round of applications for cities opens on Sept. 1, 2023, through Oct. 31, 2023, and a second round opens from De. 1, 2023, through Jan. 31, 2024. The application processing time can take 60 days, but quicker transition times are awarded to federally outlined projects or activities.
