State Auctioning Surplus Transportation Equipment

Kentucky cities can bid on surplus heavy equipment through an online state auction. The Finance and Administration Cabinet’s Division of Surplus Properties is selling equipment no longer in use by the Transportation Cabinet, including trucks, snowplows, tractors, mowers, parts, and other equipment.

The auction begins Sunday, Oct. 16 and closes on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Interested parties can review items on Monday, Oct. 17 and Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the KYTC Division of Equipment on Wilkinson Boulevard in Frankfort. Onsite inspections are available from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. without an appointment.

Cities operating under the Local Model Procurement Code may purchase from the auction without advertising for bids pursuant to KRS 45A.380(9). Cities operating under the general bid statute may also purchase from the auction because the successful bidder purchases items from another governmental agency. Senate Bill 42 (2022), a KLC-supported bill sponsored by Senator Stephen Meredith (R-Leitchfield), amended KRS 424.260 to authorize cities to purchase items from other governmental agencies with or without compensation without advertising for bids.
